Job Description

The Research Associate (RA) will be member of the Analytical Development group and will optimize and perform cell-based assays for the determination of the potency of AAV vector products. The position will be located in our newly opened laboratories in South San Francisco. The RA will perform assays with analysis of results to ensure that accuracy, precision, reportable range, reference interval, analytical sensitivity, specificity and statistically sound data is produced.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Performing ELISA, PCR (ddPCR/PCR, qPCR), Western Blot, protein measurement by BCA
  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Data analysis, reporting and documenting results
  • Group meetings presentations
  • Solution preparation
  • Sample inventory maintenance

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Research Associate, I: Bachelor of Science with 1 year experience; Research Associate, II: Bachelor of Science with 1-5 years' experience or a Master's degree with 1 year experience; Research Associate, III: Bachelor of Science with 5-8 years' experience or a Master's degree with 3-5 years'; Senior Research Associate, Bachelor of Science with 8+ years' experience or a Master's degree with 5+ years' experience working in a pharmaceutical or biotech company and with the requisite years' of experience and with the requisite years' of experience employing the skills listed in the job description (for each level) performing biologic assays for characterization of proteins
  • Proven experience with enzymatic assays, ELISA, PCR, immunofluorescence, and mammalian cell culture
  • Strong statistical skills
  • Excellent clear and concise writing skills along with strong verbal communication skills
  • Efficient, flexible and self-motivated work ethic; to be utilized in planning, executing, and analyzing assay development activities
  • Innovative technical and analytical skills required to perform research at the highest level
  • Highly motivated and independent, yet has successfully worked in a group setting
  • Proficient working in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience with implementation of automated systems for assays
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced, start-up environment
