Job Description

The Role

The Research Associate (Contract) will be member of Analytical Development group and he/she will support Process Science and Manufacturing Group efforts in developing novel production strategies in our newly opened laboratories in South San Francisco. In this role, the Research Associate will be responsible for analyzing in-process samples on small-scale R&D batches of gene therapy vectors for the understanding of process performance.  Responsibilities also include testing samples using biochemical methods, completing tasks within assigned time frames, and maintaining an orderly lab notebook. Additionally, the role includes regularly summarizing results in lab meetings and generating reports. This position will be located in our South San Francisco offices.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Performing HPLC, ELISA, BCA, Spectrophotometry, SDS-PAGE, ddPCR/PCR, DLS, Western Blot
  • Analytical Methods troubleshooting, qualification
  • Data analysis, reporting and documenting results
  • Group meetings presentations
  • Solution preparation
  • Sample inventory maintenance
  • Laboratory upkeep

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • BS degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biology or a related discipline plus a minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a research associate within a biotech or pharmaceutical company
  • Meticulous attention to detail, and demonstrated experience of carefully recording methods and results
  • Proven and consistent work ethic. Self-directed; open to challenges with enthusiasm
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Outstanding collaboration, problem solving team player with excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in techniques and assays listed (ELISA, BCA, Spectrophotometry, DLS, Western Blot, SDS-PAGE, ddPCR/PCR, HPLC)
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced, start-up environment
  • Proficient working in Microsoft Office and JMP
  • Experience in working in GLP environment
